Summer Invitational Institute

Aplications are no longer being accepted for the 2012 Institute. We will post information regarding the 2013 Institute in December of 2012.
We are pleased to announce the 2012 Summer Institute of the Heart of Texas Writing Project. This organization is the University of Texas at Austin’s affiliate of the National Writing Project. Our Summer Institute will help you develop your knowledge and abilities as a writing teacher and as a leader in literacy professional development. Participants spend a good portion of their time at this institute writing, reading, and consulting with other teachers. Once you have participated, you will enter an exciting community of excellent teachers from the Austin area and will be able to receive support in your teaching and continuing professional development. You may also have opportunities to provide professional development services to other teachers. We invite experienced teachers of writing to apply to participate in the Summer Institute.
Summer Institute details:
- On or before February 27, 2012: Online application form submitted AND supporting documents emailed to heartoftexaswp [at] gmail [dot] com.
- March 6: Required interviews with finalists. At UT's Sanchez Building, with group appointments beginning at 4:30.
- April 14: First required Saturday orientation meeting, 9am-3:30pm.
- May 5: Second required Saturday orientation meeting, 10am-1pm.
- June 11 - July 6: Summer Institute (no meeting on July 4th). At UT's Sanchez Building.
Please note that the Summer Institute is an experience that cannot be engaged at a distance; you have to be present to benefit, so attendance is required. If you already know of conflicts in your schedule, please let us know about them in your application materials. If you already know that you cannot make two or more days of the institute, another year might be better timing for your participation.
Click here to begin your application. Almost certainly, it would be a good idea to look at the questions you're being asked on this form, write them in a word processing program on your own computer, and then paste the answers into the fields on the application form. You will need to complete the form, including the four essay questions, all at once. After the form has been completed, please email student work samples, a CV (resumé), and a letter of support from your principal to heartoftexaswp [at] gmail [dot] com. Further instructions are detailed in the form.
Sincerely,
Randy Bomer
