Objective: In small groups, students will be assigned one of the two theories and must thoroughly research their topic in order to be fully prepared to debate and support their theory against the opposing theory.
Students will be assigned their group members and theory to support. The students must research their topic using the evidence given as well as find one additional source not included in the given documents. Their research must be organized and prepared using a graphic organizer.
Groups will be allowed to practice their debate, and then they will be placed up against a group with the opposing theory. Each group will circulate around the classroom until all groups have debated with the opposing groups.
Closure: Students will break away from their groups and as a class we will discuss which theory they believe is more valid and why, or if they believe both theories could be possible.
