Look Like/ Sounds Like Chart

To introduce something new, a teacher makes a large Looks Like/ Sounds Like chart together with the class so students are clear on the appropriate way to behave.  This chart can be used to introduce anything new, such as how to act when a substitute comes, proper behavior in stations, etc.  On a large piece of paper the teacher will make a T-chart and on one side will have the Looks Like column and on the other the Sounds Like column.  Cooperatively as a class they will make a list of what proper behavior will look like and sound like in that particular situation.  Making a chart like this makes the expectations very clear for the students and is a great reminder for them to come back to so there are no misunderstandings.
